Independence Day Celebrations






June 29 - July 1  DeSoto State Park's Annual Independence Day CelebrationThis annual event is fun for both children & adults!
- Participate in the flag making contest, materials & flag-making rules will be available at the campground pavilion in the Campground starting Thursday, June 29th. Flags MUST be turned in no later than 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 1st. Turn in flags at DeSoto's Nature Center.
- Join the fun at our 5th Annual Splish & Splash Pool Party! Cool off in our Olympic-size pool, play pool games, eat home-made ice cream, & enter for door prizes! $1 per person-admission. 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on June 30th.- Decorate your vehicle to show your spirit at the Independence Parade on July 1st! Parade will start at 3 p.m. at DeSoto's Park Headquarters & ends in DeSoto's Campground in time for the Ice Cream Social at 4 p.m. If you wish to ride along, meet at DeSoto's Park Headquarters or Improved campground gate a few minutes before 3 p.m. We would love to have you join us in celebrating our Country’s Independence Day!  Bring your own comfortable camp chair as seating is limited. Free to participate, & open to everyone!

June 30 - IndependenceDay Celebration in Fort Payne
Brought to you by the City of Fort Payne and the Heil Company.
Join us at the Fort Payne Sports Complex for the Independence Day Celebration festivities.
Additional parking will be available at the Heil parking lot across the street from the Sports Complex for $2 or a monetary donation. All proceeds will benefit local charities. Heil will also be handing out drink coozies to people who park at Heil and at the Sports Complex while supplies last.

7:00 • City Council – Welcome/Invocation Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance/National Anthem
7:15 • Canyonland Vocal Band

We will have the following vendors: Shaved ice, BBQ, funnel cakes and several other food vendors. The City will provide popcorn and soft drinks while supplies last.


July 4 - 34th Annual Sand Mountain Potato Festival Sand Mountain is well known for its rich diversity of agricultural products, including potatoes. Celebrate our heritage with live music, arts and crafts, entertainment, games and fireworks. Event begins at 10 a.m. and culminates with a beautiful fireworks display. 256-657-6282
