Are you looking for something to keep you busy this weekend? Well, we have you covered! Here is a list of things to do in the Lookout Mountain area this weekend, June 2-4, 2017.

June 2 - 3 Live Music at Vintage 1889  - Friday, June 2nd, Dusty Smith and Saturday, June 3rd, Hayden & Jeff. Make plans to see some great live music at a great local Bar/Restaurant in Fort Payne  7 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night.  256-845-3380

June 2 - Forever Country Band performing : Jack Martin, Terry Satterfield, Dennis Hicks, Jimmy Blalock, and Rusty Shaver. This is a one time event with some of the original members. Show starts at 6pm at the Chris Roberts School of Music located at 2904 Greenhill Blvd. NW in Fort Payne.



June 2 - Friday Night Seafood Buffet at the Mountain Inn Restaurant in DeSoto State Park. Buffet has Popcorn Shrimp, Grilled Tilapia, Fried Catfish Filets, Stuffed Crab Shells, Oysters, Whole Catfish, Seafood Gumbo, Baked Potatoes & More! June 2 - 4 Big Wills Arts Council presents the Photography of Steven Stiefel.  Photographer, Steven Stiefel brings his unique view of the world through the lens of his camera to The Fort Payne Coal and Iron Building, located at 501 Gault Ave. N. Opening Reception is on June 2nd at 6pm, with the show hours on Saturday the 3rd from 10am till 4pm and Sunday June 4th from 12pm till 4pm. Admission is Free with donations accepted and artist's work for sale.



June 3 - Movin for Main Street 5K and Fun Run - Medals to be awarded to the top males and females in the following age groups:  (0-12), (13-15), (16-20), (21-30), (31-40), (41-50), (51-60), (61+). Prizes to be awarded to Overall top male & female in 5K race. Ribbons will be awarded to all Fun Run participants.  Coal and Iron Building (500 Gault Ave. N, Fort Payne); Registration begins at 7 a.m.; race begins at 8 a.m.; Fun Run begins after the 5k at 9 a.m. You can register online. http://www.racesonline.com/events/Movin for Mainstreet



June 3 Blow An Ornament Come design and blow your own ornament with the help of one of our glass artists.  No reservations are needed, it is on a first come, first serve basis.   For this we welcome people of all ages (at least 5 years old). 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.    Orbix Hot Glass.  Cost is $38 per ornament blown 256-523-3188 

June 3 Memories of Mayberry Join the Valley Head Volunteer Fire Department for a great day for the whole family! There will be an antique car cruise in, food, fun, entertainment and more. Special guests will be Barney Fife, Ernest T. Bass and more. All proceeds go to the Volunteer Fire Department. June 3 DeKalb County Fiddlers' Convention Come and enjoy the 108th Anniversary of the DeKalb Fiddlers’ Convention. Held at the Rotary Pavillion in Fort Payne. Registration starts at 11a.m. with contests at noon. Proceeds go to benefit the BWAC and Ft Payne City Schools Arts in Education Program. Adm is $10, Children 10 and under are free. 256-845-2224

June 3 Great Outdoors Day hosted by Alabama State Parks Enjoy a fun filled day in the great outdoors! Join Alabama State Parks staff and volunteers for this great event showcasing all the many ways that adventures can be had in the Great Outdoors! Come out to enjoy the park with demonstrations, live animal education programs, info tables, guided fitness & nature hikes…and much more! DeSoto State Park 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. $2.00 per vehicle for parking. No entrance fee for event. Great for all ages!
Individual events for Alabama State Park’s Great Outdoors Day:
Archery - Have you ever wanted to release your inner archer? Join Alabama Department of Wildlife and Freshwater Fishery’s Stuart Goldsby for an opportunity to learn archery safety & techniques. This is a great opportunity to brush-up on the basics or start from scratch with the guidance of certified instructors. Ages 10 and up. All Equipment is provided. Time: 10am, 12pm, & 2 pm
Birds of Prey Program with Alabama Wildlife Center - Join Scottie Jackson from the Alabama Wildlife Center, for a showcase of various birds of prey; she will present each bird’s unique abilities, adaptations, predator/prey relationships, specific characteristics, natural histories, and the personal histories of each bird. Time: 10:00 & 12:30.  Small pavilion on field.
Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration - Dutch ovens have been in use for hundreds of years; especially when our country was expanding and families were on the move. Unable to bring their large cook stoves with them, women learned how to cook entire meals from stews & soups to bread & desserts, in their Dutch ovens. Learn the basics about Dutch ovens, how to clean & care for your cookware, AND cook (& eat!) dinner & dessert at the same time! This is a demonstration, so the best part is when food is just coming off the fire! Time: 10:30-2:00The Backwoods Revival Band will be playing bluegrass music at the Great Outdoors Day event. Bring your own comfortable chair as seating is limited. Time: 1:30-3:00 pm. Small pavilion on field.   www.backwoodsrevival.com

June 3 Rock Climbing / Rappelling Adventure Combo Come experience first-hand what rock climbing and rappelling is all about with guides who are fun, safe and energetic. This trip includes all the gear plus basic instruction.  No prior climbing experience is needed.  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 256-997-9577 
June 3 Night Zip Line Adventure All our zip lines are set up just before the adventure to ford a gorge or cross from one high point to another.   Pre-registration required at True Adventure Sports by 6 pm the day before the adventure. 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  256-997-9577 
 
June 3 - Grassroots Gathering - The Little River Waterkeeper presents the 1st annual Grassroots Get Down! Farm to Table Dinner Fundraiser on the bank of Little River at Historic Nippersink Lodge (located at 52 County Rd. 936 in Mentone) at 5 pm. Join us in celebrating our local farmers, local food, and local community! This fundraising event will showcase the incredibly talented farmers and food producers at The Farm at Windy Hill and Harvest Roots Ferments. Tickets are priced at $50 each and will be limited to 30. We will be serving a menu that will showcase the best of the local foods in season that Lookout Mountain has to offer. Entertainment by Matty Croxton.
All proceeds will go to weekly water quality monitoring and supplies. The LRWK monitors the health of 4 popular swimming holes throughout the summer. We post weekly results online so water users, get the "skinny before they dip". 256-634-8370

June 3 - Cima's Game Night  - Come out for the next installment of Cima's Game Night at MidTown Cafe&Grill! CIMA will DJ all night. Taking requests after tourney ends. Pong tournament at 10:30PM. $100 Cash Prize for 1st place team.  Two $25 Midtown Gift Certificates for 2nd Place team. Music and sign-ups beginning at 9pm. First 16 teams to sign up and pay will be entered into the tournament. $5 fee per team to enter. *See flyer posted in event for tournament rules and details*

June 3 - Charlie Bonnet III at the Grove Oak Store - Listening room to highlight singer-songwriting abilities. This time will have Nashville based Southern Rock singer songwriter Charlie III Bonnet! Cover charge is $20 for adults and $10 for kids and that includes food, a drink, and the show. This show will also be recorded live! The Grove Oak Store Listening Room is located at 869 County Road 402 in Grove Oak, Alabama.


June 4 - DeSoto State Park Sunday Lunch Buffet - Let us do the cooking for you and your family this Sunday! Enjoy a Lunch Buffet at the Mountain Inn Restaurant, located in DeSoto's historic Lodge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935. Lunch is from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Cost is $13.95 per person.
